Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Now Sold Over 26 Million Copies

Back in August it was reported Animal Crossing: New Horizons was on track to becoming the best selling Switch title, as 22.4 million units as of June 30th. Now, as of September 30th, a short 3 months later, the title has sold over 26 million copies!

Previously, the game was rivalling Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 26.74 million units, sitting at only 4 million units short. That gap has now decreased, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sitting at 28.99 million units, cutting 1 million units off the gap. With the holiday season upon us, this gap could very well decrease, with New Horizons being the best selling title within the next quarter.

What this means for the series going forward is anyone's guess. Nintendo has already mentioned they plan on adding regular updates to the game, so whether or not these incredible sales are going to change what they add, or how long they plan to continue supporting the game are unknown.
