Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX (Nintendo Switch) - Review

Image
When it comes to  Mystery Dungeon , you either love or hate the series. When these games first came out, it took me forever to understand the gameplay, but once I did, I was hooked. I've enjoyed every PMD game since, but things started going south once they moved over to the 3DS. Something just wasn't right with Gates to Infinity, and even though Super Mystery Dungeon helped bring it back to it's roots, something still felt off. So how does this remaster of the original games compare? Let's find out! The game fully captures the charm of the originals and doesn't notably change anything up. The dialogue and story remains faithful to the source material, and a number of gameplay tweaks and improvements have been made for better quality of life. The game now auto-saves, and also has an "auto-mode" in the dungeons, where pressing the L button will make the player automatically walk through the dungeon until L is pressed again, or an enemy is near. Sign Ups Now Open for Galar Newcomers Online Competition

Image
The second official online competition for Pokemon Sword and Shield is set to go underway at the end of the month, and just for participating you can net yourself an easy 50 BP (that's Battle Points for those who aren't up to date with the Pokemon lingo). Like most online competitions, this one has a rule set, limiting the use of only Pokemon that were introduced in the Galar region, and thankfully this included regional variants. You can find more information over at the  official website.  To sing up, simply open up the menu and select the VS option. From there, select Battle Stadium, Online Competitions, then Search Official Competitions, and you're all set. Sign ups will last until 3:59PM PST on January 30th, with the competition kicking off the next minute, lasting through to February 2nd at 3:39PM PST. Though the reward is only 50 BP this time around, official tournaments have been known to give out exclusive Pokemon, including Shiny's, in the past. If you...

Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Announced, Brand New Pokemon Coming + More Revealed in Latest Pokemon Direct

Image
Earlier this week it was revealed there would be a Pokemon Direct to announce the upcoming plans TPCi has for 2020. For us Australians, in the wee hours of the night, the Direct aired, giving us a look at what's to come, including an expansion to Sword and Shield, an update on Pokemon HOME, and a new Mystery Dungeon game! A new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game was announced, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, which will be a remaster of the original PMD games, Red/Blue Rescue Team. The games will launch on March 6th and include new content, as a Mega Charizard is shown off in the trailer. The art style is incredibly charming, and we'd recommend you pick this one up. Even though the past few PMD games have been less than stellar, the first set of games were much more endearing. If you're still unsure about the game, a demo is now available on the eShop for you to decide for yourself! Find out which Pokémon you’ll become and take your new Rescue Team on an u...

Pokemon Direct Announced for Later This Week

Image
Hot off the release of Sword and Shield , Nintendo and TPCi have announced their next Pokemon Direct will be happening later this week. For those of us in Australia, the direct will be at 1:30 on Friday morning, the rest of the world will receive it at a more sensible hour on Thursday. Not much has been said about the presentation, other than it'll go for 20 minutes. We know that Pokemon HOME and Pokemon Sleep are due out this year, but it's highly doubtful they'll hold a Direct just for those two and take up an entire 20 minutes. There's also Detective Pikachu 2 that was briefly mentioned last year. Tune in on 10/01 at 1:30 a.m. (AEDT) for roughly 20 minutes of new #Pokemon information in a livestreamed #PokemonDirect presentation. 👉 https://t.co/cvzpu8FYTk pic.twitter.com/sDg9MktwHZ — Nintendo AU NZ (@NintendoAUNZ) January 7, 2020 Most are hoping for Diamond and Pearl remakes to be announced, but we think it'll be more likely we'll rece...

Gen VIII Pokedex Review - Part 2: Galar and Gigantamax Forms!

Image
Last time, we reviewed all the new Pokemon introduced in Sword and Shield, and now it's time to share our thoughts on all the new forms introduced, including both Galar forms and Giganatmax forms. Again, this post will contain spoilers, so if you want to go into the games spoiler-free, it might be best to come back later.

Gen VIII Pokedex Review - Part 1: New Pokemon!

Image
Pokemon Sword and Shield released almost a month ago when we first reviewed the game . Now we feel it's time to review and share our thoughts on all the new Pokemon introduced in this generation. As of this posting, TPCi has not officially revealed all Pokemon, so if you've yet to purchase the game, or haven't finished, be warned as this post will contain spoilers. For those who are ready, below is our review of all the new Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Since there are a fair few new Pokemon, we've decided to split this up into two parts. The first part will focus on all the Gen VIII Pokemon, and the second part will focus on the Galarian and Gigantamax forms, which we will post next week. We've really got to take our hats off to the designers though. Out of all the Pokemon introduced, there aren't that many we dislike, and can easily count them on one hand. Grookey: Grookey is the Grass starter of then region and was one of the fi...

From December 4th until January 5th, players will be able to encounter a special Gigantamax Snorlax in the Wild Area in Pokemon Sword and Shield. This Snorlax can use G-Max Replenish, which also restores any berries you or your allies have used in battles.  To encounter this Snorlax in game, open up the Mystery Gift menu, and select "Get the Wild Area News". This will update your game and allow Gigantamax Snorlax to appear in Max Raid Battles across the Wild Area.  Currently, this special Snorlax is not available through normal gameplay means and can only be obtained through these special Max Raid battles.

Pokemon Sword and Shield (Nintendo Switch) - Review

Image
From the infamous "Armoured Evolution" to #BringBackTheNationalDex to Gigantamaxing, it sure has been a wild ride since February when Pokemon Sword and Shield were first revealed. This time around, their marketing tactic was scarce when compared to the previous generation, and a lot was kept hidden until the games finally released. But does the first mainline RPG on the Nintendo Switch live up to the hype? Let's find out! The games start off like any other Pokemon game. You start your game, you meet someone, you get your starter Pokemon, and then you being your journey. There is a little something at the start of the game that adds to the mystery and story (more on that later), but the small taste they give to you doesn't seem sweet enough. You then play the game like you would any other Pokemon game, until you reach the fabled Wild Area. The Wild Area has been covered to death by this point, and is an expansive area where wild Pokemon roam free, but it...
